He was popularly known as “Nagen Kathak “and was a doyen in his own un-imitable style of music during beginning of few decades of last century. He used to get invitation during that era of time in Music Conferences & Celebrations by many Kings and Zamindars in India as a dignified musician at par with various Ustads of Rampur gharana,Varanasi gharana, Lukhnow gharana, Bishnupur gharana and so on, in those golden days of classical music. But grandson of Nagendra Nath Shastri & son of SULATA Devi, gave a new dimension of Ranaghat Gharana and established a big musical Institution by name 'Nagendfa Sangeet Mahabidyalaya' to give original training of classical music to students of nearby cities and districts to popularise the Parampara of Ranaghat Gharana.On great demand,,Shibkumar extended branches,of his musical Institution to Calcutta,Durgapur and few other cities. He was organising a great musical conference in Ranaghat, where every possible legendary musicians of this country, performed many times. That was used to be biggest classical music conference in Bengal once a year, outside CALCUTTA,l during 40s,50s,60s in last century.

He also rendered his voice in many films of Satyajit ROY, Tarun Mazumdar, Rwittik Ghatak etc.He was teacher and examiner of Music of Allahabad University,Agra University, Benaras University, and conveynor in West Bengal for Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad. He was regular performer in AIR, since 1946 till he expired in mid nineties and I Dooradarshan, regularly. He was regular performer in most of the all India Music Conferences.
         
Her daughter SULATA Devi also picked up an excellent training through her great father.
 
Pandit Shibkumar's elder sister, Sandhya Banerjee, got married at young age in Lukhnow, in a musical family, and the city was a paradise of classical music. Ms. Sandhya's house was a meeting point and a transit lounge for various top musicians of Lukhnow,Varanasi,Rampur,Bengal, Maihar and Mumbai. AIR and Doradarshan Chiefs were visiting this musical house quite frequently. Ms. Sandhyaji also contributed to a great extent for promotion of classical music, Bhajan, Agamani, GAZAL etc. In northern part of India. She was the most respected singer in Lukhnow for decades in her prime days.
 
Sandhyaji's daughter Anjana Banerjee is a prominent GAZAL singer and performed innumerable stage shows in northern belt and Mumbai,AIR, Dooradarshan etc.
 
Pandit Shibkumar's younger sister Dr. Anjali Mukherjee, a famous Gynocologist, a Fellow of Royal College of London, was also a great Nazrul GEETI and Rabindrasangeet singer and published N no. Of musical disc records, cassettes,CDs etc from HMV. She was very fond of Angurbala and Indubala and was accepted as their own daughter.
 
Pandit Shib kumar's two younger brothers, Sunit Chatterjee and Sunil Chatterjee, both were and is expert Tabla players and constituted Tabla TRAING to young promising students. Particularly Sunit (popularly known as Mantan) was continuos accompanist Tabla player with Hemanta Mukherjee for decades, in India and abroad.
 
SHIBOPRIYA's grandfather(father's father) Nirod baran Banerjee was also a good vocalist in light music and could play Sitar, Sarod, Tabla, Bina etc. and also was a resident of Nadia district.
 
SHIBOPRIYA's mother Ms. Dipanwita Banerjee, a disciple of her father Pandit Shibkumar, graduated and post graduated in Kaththak dance and Bhab Sangeet from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad, is a music performer, but greater than that, an experienced music & dance teacher.
She instituted a big music and dance school in early 80s in last century, in Mumbai and ran it for 15 years,as long as she stayed in Mumbai. Shibopriya also got training from her mother and used to teach music and dance to young students there .Dipanwita was also examiner for PSS, Allahabad.
